CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

The 2017 Falsework Summer Studio in Materialist and Decolonial (MAD) Politics and Aesthetics, co-hosted by Bard College at Simon’s Rock (www.simons-rock.edu) and the University of Granada (www.ugr.es), will take place on June 5-15 at the University of Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It will involve 10 days of intensive study in contemporary politics and aesthetics. Dispensing with standard academic distinctions and displacing traditional hierarchies, the Studio welcomes all critical and political thinkers. Our collaborative learning and investigation thrives on a mutual accountability sustained by and in our multiplicity. Artists, writers, graduate students, postdocs, advanced undergraduates, professors, and independent researchers are invited to apply.

Participants will contribute “companion” works–their own projects at any stage of completion, and an artefact of their political and intellectual journey–to a commons that tends to them without the pressure of a dictated finality, addressing their genealogies and their potential unfoldings and morphings. We understand this as a space where creative solidarities across varying immediate political contexts can help imagine different mannerisms and ends for intellectual and artistic labour than those usually assigned by the university and society. English will be the primary medium of conversation.

Bard College at Simon’s Rock will underwrite academic credit for undergraduates if needed.  Please contact aabbas@simons-rock.edu  for more information.

Cost & Housing

The program fee will be $250. Partial tuition remission will be considered in certain cases. Please contact us with any questions.

Participants will be housed at one of the properties of the University of Granada located in between the historic Muslim and Jewish neighborhoods. The total cost for room and two meals each day for the entire duration of the program will be $360 (triple occupancy), $430 (double occupancy) and $660 (single occupancy).

Please apply here. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2017 (late applicants welcome if space permits). However, we encourage expressions of interest and early applications by  January 15, 2017. Applicants should expect decisions by March 1, 2017.
